WHAT IS STITCH FIX?
Stitch Fix is an online clothing and accessory subscription service that’s similar to Trunk Club or Birchbox. You simply download the app, create a profile, fill out the style questionnaire and then select your delivery date. You will be assigned a special stylist who will pull together various pieces and mail them right to your front door. Your “fix” will arrive with 5 unique pieces and it will include a small card that shows you how you can style them (hallelujah for making life easy).
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
When you’re filling out your style questionnaire you can tell your stylist the price point you’re comfortable with for certain items. For example, you have the ability to say that you’d be willing to spend up to $60 on a top or $100 on pants and they won’t send you anything outside of that bracket {also, just for reference, the average cost of an item in Stitch Fix is $55}. The company partners with over 250 brands, some well known and others up and coming, but in the end the quality of the pieces are typically worth the price tag.
On the day your “fix” ships you’ll be charged a $20 styling fee. If you decide to keep any of the items, that $20 will be applied to the cost–think of it as a small down payment. Once you try everything on, you can check-out on the app and send back the items you don’t like. When you do so, you’ll provide feedback so that your stylist has a better understanding of your likes and dislikes for the next time! If you luck out and want to keep everything, Stitch Fix provides a 25% discount for the total purchase!
HOW DOES THE SHIPPING WORK?
One thing I really like about Stitch Fix is the ability to schedule your fix. You can schedule them every 2-3 weeks, every month, every other month, or every three months. The best part is, even if you schedule them, that schedule is not set in stone. You can easily login to the app and skip a fix for no charge.
For returns, Stitch Fix will provide you with a return label and bag so that you can easily send back any items you aren’t happy with. You typically have a 3 day turnaround time from when you receive the items until you need to mail back the no-go’s. If you need more time, just shoot an email over to their customer service team and explain the situation, they’re typically a-ok giving you a few extra days as long as they’re aware.
THE CLOTHES:
I love the the idea of having a personal stylist {feels so fancy!} and someone that can provide new and fun options that are outside of my comfort zone. Even though I love the idea, I’ve still had my fair share of “whomp whomp” boxes. I’ve had shirts that were too boxy, pants with not enough stretch, shoes that were too big, etc., but I’ve noted all of those “wrongs” on my return forms and I noticed the boxes getting better each time.
I wanted to use this post to highlight one of my favorite pieces from my most recent fix. My box included this little orange dress (from Jack by BB Dakota) and I instantly fell in love! I wore it on my birthday for a nice dinner and again for a casual Sunday brunch with friends. The fabric was heavy in that it felt durable, but not so heavy that it didn’t breath. Plus, there were pockets {whoop!} which made it so much easier to dress this piece up or down. For this look, I paired it with my favorite pair of Sam Edelman heels {seriously so comfy} and some tassel earrings from Baublebar to give it a fresh and summery feel.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Overall, I think Stitch Fix is great if you’re looking to bring some new life into your wardrobe or if you’re not a big in store shopper. I love the idea of having a stylist pick out pieces for you, but at the end of the day I missed the the thrill of being in a store and having the ability to quickly switch out sizes, colors, etc. If you’re teetering with the idea of giving Stitch Fix a try, here is my advice:
- It doesn’t hurt to give it a shot. As I mentioned, you only pay $20 for your first fix and that cost is then applied to a piece if you purchase something. You also only pay for the fixes you schedule and you can easily cancel your subscription.
- Be as honest as you can on your questionnaire and on your return forms–the more information you can give your stylist, the better!
- Return what you don’t like! It sounds super simple, but I’ve had so many friends that have kept a full box because of the 25% discount, even though there were 1-2 items that they weren’t crazy about. The point of Stitch Fix is to give you new and fun pieces that you love, so don’t settle because it’s convenient. Save that money and spend it on something that makes you feel great!
Have you have used Stitch Fix before, what do you think? Have you loved your fixes? I’d love to hear!
