There ain’t no party like a poke party! A new poke restaurant moved into the neighborhood and let me just say, it did not disappoint! If the charming pastel interior, California vibes and chic decor don’t make you fall head over heels, the food definitely will.
Malibu Poke has a southern California inspired menu and serves up apps, drinks and poke bowls that range from $12-$17. The menu features pre-designed bowls such as the Wasabi Ponzu Salmon and the Coconut Curry Hamachi, fresh apps and a slew of beers, wine and sakes.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you also have the ability to make your own bowl where you can pick a base, protein, sauce and toppings. With base options such as massaged kale, cauliflower rice, sushi grade rice and a seafood blend, this meal can truly cater to a variety of diets.
I swung by Malibu Poke for the first time last weekend and it quickly became one of my favorite spots in town. I was feeling a little rebellious, so I decided to create my own bowl.
The ordering process was really simple–you walk up to a machine and can pick out your entire meal from apps to the contents of your main dish. There are employees (or as I like to call them, fish connoisseurs) walking around if you need some advice on what goes best with what. Once complete, you can save your order based on your credit card or facial recognition (cool, right?) so that you can remember your masterpiece for next time.
You’ll pick up your drink right away and then grab a buzzer that will sound as soon as your meal is ready. Even though this spot has a fast food set-up, the experience is anything but! There is ample seating and the laid back vibe makes you feel like there’s no rush at all.
Tips for First Timers:
- Malibu Poke will validate parking up to an hour in the Seaholm garage. Just remember to bring your ticket in.
- If you think you’re going to be a frequent flyer, request a perk card! After 8 bowls, you get one for free.
- Unless you’re starving, order a small bowl instead of large. There’s more than enough food in there and it’s much more cost efficient.
- They serve beer, wine and sake and have the sweetest little patio. Grab a drink, kick back and relax.
More info can be found here and they’re open daily from 11am-9pm!
Have you been to Malibu Poke yet? What did you think?
