Last Sunday, I showed up to Zilker Park ready to celebrate the girls, something I never thought I would be doing lol. But if you know my story, then you know the why behind it (if you don’t, check out this post for details). With my surgery just a few weeks away, I knew I was about to spend a lot of time inside, and so I wanted to have some fun with friends and highlight all the good things that this mastectomy will bring š
The Party
So I pulled up to Zilker Park last week with two bottles of rosĆ© in a canvas tote and four large rose gold mylar balloons stuffed into my back seat! I hopped out of the car, pulled the balloons out and, from a distance, I could see the distinct waive of my three girlfriends in the park. I quickly made my way through the people and the pups, the sunbathers and the football players until I was face-to-face with most gorgeous pink picnic I’ve ever seen.
There were hugs all around as we unpacked all of the goodies we brought and quickly got our little area set-up!
We spent two hours enjoying pizza from True Food, a homemade charcuterie board (photos below – I die!) and one (or three š ) glasses of wine! It was the most perfect night with clear skies, beautiful weather, yummy food and great company. I couldn’t be happier with how the event turned out and I’ll be forever thankful to Picnic Parlour ATX for setting up such a perfect little evening for us.
If you’re looking to throw a Ta-Ta party of your own, here are a few things I would recommend!
Steps to Planning Your Event
First Off – Say Yes!
At first, I was hesitant to do a party like this. I stumbled across the idea online and loved it, but I felt pretty awkward planning it and even more awkward inviting people to it. I also kept calling it my “boob party” out of pure confusion as to what it should actually be called lol. Thankfully I stumbled across a story where someone called it a Ta-Ta party and I quickly adapted that sweet name!
As I got deeper into the planning process and started talking to my girlfriends about what I wanted to do, I realized that I was the only one who truly felt uncomfortable….and there was really no reason to be! The party was supposed to be something fun to celebrate and commemorate a big life decision and that’s exactly how they saw it.
At the end of the day, your friends are there to back you up, lift you up and support you (very much like a bra š – little boob joke for ya there), so if you want to say ta-ta with a swaray then go for it!
1. Pick a Location
Ok! First up, you need to pick a location. Do you want a casual house party? Brunch at the local restaurant? Drinks at a wine bar? A specialty event like a picnic? There is no right or wrong way to celebrate. Figure out what would make you happy and start calling around! Pinterest and Instagram are also great tools to look for inspo.
2. Curate a Guest List
Due to covid, I opted for a small event with just three friends! I loved the intimate feel and the ability to really spend quality time with everyone.
I would say that the guest list is totally up to you though and should be however big or small you’d like!
3. Pick Colors and Decor
DƩcor is a must. Thankfully Picnic Parlor supplied a lot of the dƩcor for us. We picked the type of picnic we wanted from their website and they did the whole picnic set-up (the table, cushions, place settings, etc.) and it included the flowers and candles as well! It was all so dang dreamy.
If you’re on a budget and just want to add a little dĆ©cor, I would suggest spending on flowers and balloons. I love mylars, so those were a must for me! I will say it was really hard to keep 4 letters straight…in the middle of a park…in the midst of the elements. So if you go that route, maybe just use them inside š
You can also order really cool balloon arches from Etsy if you’re looking for a cost effective alternative that will really transform a space.
4. Order Themed Snacks
A themed snack is an easy way to make any event a tata event! I opted for bra shaped sugar cookies from The Lucky Baker which were so dang cute! But there are a ton of options for themed treats.
Most bakeries can help you out with some type of tata cake, cupcake, cake-pop, etc. A themed pink drink would also be a great touch.
5. Get a New Oufit
Pick out a new outfit that makes you feel good! I searched high and low for a fun pink top and found the one below at Forver21 for $20. It doesn’t have to be a big expense, but be sure to treat yourself to something that makes you feel confident and happy!
And that’s it! You can easily plan your event in just a few steps and it’s such a sweet and simple way to say ta-ta. If you have any questions, please leave them below! And if you’re planning a ta-ta party of your own, let me know – I would love to hear the details! š
