Ben and I have been trying to hit some of NYC’s top tourist attractions before we get too settled in here and one of the spots high on my list was Top of The Rock. I was so excited when we found the perfect night to go and couldn’t wait to shoot a few photos with the iconic Empire State Building view in the background.
If you’re unfamiliar, Top of the Rock is an observatory on top of Rockefeller Center with breathtaking views of the city. One side sports sprawling views of uptown and Central Park and the other is the money shot – downtown and the Empire State Building.
Tickets are $38 for adults and $32 for children.
Tips and Tricks
Grab a ticket at sunset, it’s a little pricer ($10 more per ticket) but SO worth it you want the most magical view.
Get there a little before your time if you’re looking to do a sunset shoot. You have to get your ticket scanned and go through security, so if you don’t want to feel like you’re in a race against the clock, then give yourself a little time! We had 7:30pm tickets and got there around 7:15pm which was perfect.
The iconic window shots are actually pretty easy to get – there’s a ton of windows and people move in and out of them relatively quickly.
There are three floors, but the initial elevator you’ll take will drop you off on 67. Take it up one more floor for a slightly less crowded view and additional viewers.
Sneak out a few minutes before the sun is finished setting. We left while it was just getting dark which made for an easy and uncrowded exit,
Ps. Kept the photos below totally unfiltered so that you could see how pretty it was up there!
