Visiting the holiday markets is one of my favorite things to do in December in NYC. Ever since moving here, I’ve loved the ability to swing by whenever I’m in the area or get a craving for hot chocolate š
If you’re coming to NYC and want to visit a market, I have a few tips to help make the experience a smooth one!
- There are a few different markets across the city, but most have very similar (if not the same) vendors, so don’t feel like you need to hit them all! My two favorites are the Bryant Park Market and the Union Square Market. They’re both great and super easy to get to – the Subway will drop you off right in front. There’s also a lot to do around them, so the market can easily fit into your day.
- All of the holiday markets have food and hot chocolate, so they’re great if you’re looking to grab a quick lunch or dinner or just want a cozy drink while you shop. If you’re going to the Bryant Park market, I always suggest a lunch reservation at Bryant Park Grill. It’s a bit touristy, but a fun experience nonetheless.
- I’ve found that early morning or late at night are the best times to go (during the day it’s crazy packed – like can’t get into a shopping stall packed lol). To avoid the craze, 10-11am is usually the best time in the morning and then I’ve found that it calms down again around 8-9pm.
- Don’t feel like you need to devote a huge chunk of your day to being at the market. I feel like a lot of people plan to be there for hours, but unless you have a lot of shopping to do, you only really need an hour to check out the shops, grab a snack and take in magic.
